About this test
Class 7 is Alberta’s learner licence. The knowledge test that gets you there is taken at a registry, not a government office, and these questions follow that exam.
The test has 30 multiple-choice questions. Alberta.ca requires 25 out of 30 to pass, and you may sit once per day — you pay each time. The Class 7 computer test is offered in 25 languages, including Simplified and Traditional Chinese.
Questions come from the Class 5 / GDL driver’s guide: signs, right-of-way, speed and following distance, and Alberta’s own demerit and novice-stage rules. Do not study another province’s numbers for those last two — they do not transfer.
After you pass you remain a learner until the Class 5 road test. The broader GDL novice period is typically 24 months, minus up to six months for approved training.

Before you book the knowledge test
Alberta’s 83% pass mark leaves little room for “I will guess the last few.” Read the Class 5 / GDL guide once, then drill the topics you actually missed.
- Book at a registry and ask which languages that location supports.
- Demerit-point and GDL restriction questions are Alberta-specific — do not study another province’s numbers.
