Questions (2)

1. By beginning a left turn before reaching the center of an intersection, you:
  1. Will likely complete the turn satisfactorily.
  2. May hit other vehicles with the left side of your vehicle. ✓
  3. Can expect other drivers to move their vehicles to accommodate your turn.

Answer: B. May hit other vehicles with the left side of your vehicle.

You may hit other vehicles with the left side of your vehicle. The handbook's left-turn rule says to get to the center of the intersection before starting the turn. If you begin too soon, off-tracking can bring the left side of your vehicle into another vehicle. That is why the early start is the problem: the vehicle's path can put its left side where another vehicle is. Waiting until the center gives you the position the rule calls for.
2. If you are turning left and there are two available left turn lanes, which lane should you choose?
  1. The left lane
  2. The right lane ✓
  3. Either lane
  4. Trucks should not turn where there are two left turn lanes.

Answer: B. The right lane

Choose the right lane of the two available left-turn lanes. The handbook's left-turn rule says that when there are two turning lanes, always take the right lane. It warns against starting in the inside lane because your vehicle may need to swing right to complete the turn. Being in the right lane also makes drivers on your left easier to see.
