When should you turn off your turn signal?
- Before beginning a turn.
- In the middle of completing a turn.
- After completing a turn. ✓
- If there is no traffic surrounding you.
Answer: C. After completing a turn.
Turn off your turn signal after completing a turn.
Why this is the answer
The handbook says to signal continuously for at least 100 feet before a turn or stop, then switch the signal off when the turn is complete. It also warns that a signal left on still reads to other drivers as "turn," so ending it after you finish keeps your signal honest.
Why the other answers are wrong
- A. Before beginning a turn. — Turning the signal off before you begin a turn removes the warning other drivers need that you are about to turn.
- B. In the middle of completing a turn. — Leaving the signal on through the middle of the turn is expected; the handbook says to turn it off once the turn is complete, not partway through.
- D. If there is no traffic surrounding you. — Whether other traffic is around does not change the rule; the handbook says to turn the signal off when the turn is complete.
Remember it
Signal on before the turn, off after the turn.
