What are the colors of warning signs indicating upcoming hazards?
- Black letters or symbols on a white background
- Black letters or symbols on a yellow background ✓
- White letters or symbols on a blue background
- White letters or symbols on a green background
Answer: B. Black letters or symbols on a yellow background
Warning signs indicating upcoming hazards are black letters or symbols on a yellow background.
Why this is the answer
The handbook groups traffic sign colors by purpose and lists yellow as the color for general warning and for advisory messages about unexpected roadway conditions. Because warning signs alert you to hazards ahead, the matching choice is black letters or symbols on a yellow background. The same passage ties white/black to regulatory signs, green to guide or directional information, and blue to driver guidance, so those colors do not fit warning signs.
Why the other answers are wrong
- A. Black letters or symbols on a white background — Black letters or symbols on a white background point to regulatory signs that control traffic or give commands, not warning signs for hazards.
- C. White letters or symbols on a blue background — White letters or symbols on a blue background are used for driver guidance or disabled parking identification, not general hazard warnings.
- D. White letters or symbols on a green background — White letters or symbols on a green background give guide or directional information, not warnings about upcoming hazards.
Remember it
Yellow is the color to associate with a heads-up about the road.
