When turning left from a two-way street onto a one-way street, you should:
- Turn into any lane.
- Turn into first lane. ✓
- Turn into second lane.
Answer: B. Turn into first lane.
You should turn into the first lane when turning left from a two-way street onto a one-way street.
Why this is the answer
The handbook says to begin this left turn from the lane closest to the middle of the street. It allows you to finish in any open lane only when your direction of travel has three or more lanes. With fewer lanes, that exception does not apply, so the turn should end in the first lane available on the one-way street. That keeps the turn tight instead of drifting across lanes.
Why the other answers are wrong
- A. Turn into any lane. — Turning into any lane is allowed only when there are three or more lanes in your direction, so it is not the general rule.
- C. Turn into second lane. — The handbook does not direct you to finish in the second lane; the first lane is the default unless the multi-lane exception applies.
Remember it
Count the lanes: the any-lane choice appears only at three or more; otherwise take the first lane.
