When parking uphill on a two-way street with no curbs, your front wheels should be:
- Turned to the left (toward the street).
- Turned to the right (away from the street). ✓
- Parallel with the pavement.
Answer: B. Turned to the right (away from the street).
Your front wheels should be turned to the right, away from the street.
Why this is the answer
The handbook gives one rule for a hill with no curb, whether you are headed uphill or downhill: turn the front wheels to the right. That points them toward the side of the road, not toward the center. The handbook explains that if the brakes fail, the vehicle will roll away from the center of the road. On a two-way street, turning right keeps a roll away from the street, which is why the answer is away from the street.
Why the other answers are wrong
- A. Turned to the left (toward the street). — Turning the wheels left points them toward the street or center, which is the opposite of what the handbook says for a no-curb hill.
- C. Parallel with the pavement. — Keeping the wheels parallel with the pavement does not direct a roll away from the center, as the handbook requires when parking on a no-curb hill.
Remember it
No curb, headed uphill or down: wheels right, so a roll goes away from the center.
