A solid yellow line on your side of the centerline means:
- Reduce your speed.
- Traffic light ahead.
- Do not pass. ✓
Answer: C. Do not pass.
A solid yellow line on your side of the centerline means do not pass.
Why this is the answer
The handbook says a single solid yellow line marks the center of a two-way road. When there is only one lane going your direction and the solid yellow line is on your side, you may not pass the vehicle ahead. That is exactly what this marking tells you: passing is not allowed there. The line controls passing, not speed or traffic signals.
Why the other answers are wrong
- A. Reduce your speed. — A solid yellow centerline is a passing restriction; the handbook does not say it tells you to reduce speed.
- B. Traffic light ahead. — A solid yellow line is a lane marking on the road surface, not a warning that a traffic light is ahead.
Remember it
If the yellow line beside you is solid, stay put behind the car ahead.
