This sign means?
- Construction zone ahead
- Road closed ahead due to fallen rocks
- Watch for fallen rock and be prepared to avoid a collision ✓
- Steep hill ahead: be prepared to use a lower gear if necessary
Answer: C. Watch for fallen rock and be prepared to avoid a collision
The sign means to watch for fallen rock and be prepared to avoid a collision.
Why this is the answer
The handbook's warning sign list includes this exact wording: watch for fallen rock and be prepared to avoid a collision. Warning signs alert drivers to dangerous conditions, so this sign is telling you that fallen rock is a hazard you need to watch for and be ready to avoid. That is why the answer about watching for fallen rock and being prepared to avoid a collision fits. The passages do not describe construction, a road closure, or a steep hill in connection with this sign.
Why the other answers are wrong
- A. Construction zone ahead — The passages do not link this sign to a construction zone; construction is not mentioned in the warning-sign list given.
- B. Road closed ahead due to fallen rocks — The handbook says to watch for fallen rock and avoid a collision, not that the road is closed because of fallen rocks.
- D. Steep hill ahead: be prepared to use a lower gear if necessary — No passage connects this sign to a steep hill or to using a lower gear.
Remember it
Rock warning means hazard ahead, not road shut.
