The nearest a driver may park to a fire hydrant is…?
- 3 m ✓
- 1.5 m
- 4.5 m
- 6 m
Answer: A. 3 m
The nearest you may park to a fire hydrant is 3 m.
Why this is the answer
The Ontario handbook says not to park within three metres of a fire hydrant. That makes three metres the closest legal parking distance from the hydrant. The same passage gives other parking limits for places such as bridges, public entrances and intersections, but for a hydrant the stated distance is three metres.
Why the other answers are wrong
- B. 1.5 m — Parking 1.5 m from a hydrant is inside the prohibited three-metre zone.
- C. 4.5 m — The handbook does not set 4.5 m as the hydrant limit; the minimum clear distance is three metres.
- D. 6 m — Six metres is the limit mentioned for a public entrance to a hotel, theatre or public hall when open, not for a fire hydrant.
Remember it
Picture a three-metre bubble around the hydrant and keep your vehicle outside it.
